Ability Magazine Feature: Urban Mining — Turning Waste Tires into Green Gold
In its March 2026 issue (No. 2000), Taiwan’s Ability Magazine ran a feature titled “Urban Mining: Turning Black Doughnuts into Green Gold”, interviewing Enrestec Chairman Michael Yuan on how the company uses pyrolysis to turn waste tires back into resources.
Highlights
- Chairman Yuan founded Enrestec in 2005, starting from energy concerns and gradually repositioning the company around “urban mining” — a long-term sunrise industry in his view.
- Enrestec’s in-house continuous pyrolysis system runs around the clock for more than 8,000 hours a year, converting waste tires into recovered carbon black (rCB), pyrolysis oil and steel wire.
- Taiwan generates more than 150,000 tonnes of waste tires a year; Enrestec has built a collection network to return them to industry on cradle-to-cradle principles.
- The plant uses AI to monitor more than 90 subsystems, combined with the hands-on judgment of experienced technicians for maintenance.
- Overseas, Enrestec has passed several years of rigorous qualification with a major Japanese tire maker and moved into plant construction, while expanding into the Middle East, the United States and Australia.
